Things to Do in Skaneateles This August 2026

If you live here, you already know August is the month the village fills up. The interesting question is where it's filling up, because 2026 is the first summer the answer isn't "just the village."

Two things shifted the map this year. The Skaneateles Festival's back half spreads its biggest nights out to Anyela's Vineyards and even to del Lago, and Skaneateles Fields Resort on Mottville Road has settled into its first full summer with a restaurant and event calendar that pulls locals west of downtown. The result is a three-node August: Genesee Street, the Anyela's ridge, and the Mottville corridor. Once you see the pattern, planning a weekend gets a lot easier.

The Thesis, In One Sentence

August in Skaneateles used to be a village-first month with the Festival as its heartbeat. In 2026, the Festival still runs the tempo, but the geography of a good weekend now includes places that didn't exist as options a year ago.

Chamber concerts on Thursday and Friday, a vineyard pavilion on Saturday, and a resort on Mottville with a restaurant most locals still haven't tried. That's the new shape of the week.

Festival Back Half: What's Left And Where To Go

The Skaneateles Festival is in its 47th season, running from July 30 through Aug. 22 with thirteen main-series concerts, two KidsFest performances, a free music lecture series with Juilliard professor Aaron Wunsch, and several free community outreach performances. If you've been holding off, the second half is the stronger stretch on paper.

Here's the calendar most people already have on their fridge, cleaned up:

Two of those deserve extra attention. The Aug. 21 Silkroad show, founded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma and led here by Rhiannon Giddens, takes place at The Vine at del Lago Resort, and it is 21 and over only. That's the one out-of-town night this year, so plan the drive. And Cécile McLorin Salvant closes the festival on Saturday, Aug. 22 with classic jazz tunes, French chansons and newly composed songs, making her Skaneateles debut.

Chamber nights sit at the First Presbyterian Church at 97 East Genesee Street, which is the walk-there option if you want to bookend a concert with dinner in the village. Saturday nights at Anyela's mean driving up the west side of the lake, but the Robinson Pavilion is the reason most locals have been keeping August Saturdays open.

Ticketing is straightforward. Tickets range from $35 to $70 for adults, lawn seating is free for children younger than 18, and college students with valid ID can purchase tickets for $10 at the door. That last one is the most under-discussed line item at any festival within an hour of Syracuse.

The Mottville Node: Skaneateles Fields, One Year In

If you drove past 1000 Mottville Road last summer and saw fencing, this is the summer to actually go in. Skaneateles Fields Resort & Spa opened as part of Curio Collection by Hilton, offering spa treatments and wellness offerings, seasonally inspired dining at Fields under Executive Chef Esperanza Guzman with beverage program consultation from William Elliott of Maison Premiere and Tigre, and year-round outdoor activities across 100 acres. That's the pitch. What matters for a resident is what it actually gives you that the village doesn't.

Three things:

• A restaurant most locals haven't tried yet. Fields is helmed by Chef Esperanza Guzman, previously of RPM Italian in Chicago, Otra Vez in New Orleans, and Bondo at The 'Quin House in Boston. The cocktail side is run by William Elliott, Executive Bar Director and Managing Partner of Maison Premiere, a James Beard Award winner ranked #33 on North America's 50 Best Bars, and Tigre, one of Esquire's Best New Bars in America in 2024. It's the highest-pedigree kitchen and bar to open within twenty minutes of the village in years.
• Somewhere to send out-of-town guests without booking the Sherwood. With 89 guest rooms, four restaurants and bars, a spa, and a sprawling outdoor area with a pool, fire pits, saunas, al fresco dining areas, pickleball and bocce ball courts, an executive putting green, and walking trails, the resort absorbs a demographic that used to book Mirbeau or drive up from Auburn.
• A large indoor room that didn't exist here before. Allyn Lodge is the largest freestanding timber structure in the state with 25,000 sq ft of events space, floor-to-ceiling windows, and a deck with stunning views of a private pond. If you have a rehearsal dinner, a milestone birthday, or a company offsite in the works for 2027, that room changes the shortlist.

The daily practicality: the property sits at 1000 Mottville Road, minutes from the Village of Skaneateles, is ADA accessible, and offers daily shuttle service to the Village. Which means you can put visiting family at the resort and still meet them for a Sherwood Inn breakfast without moving cars.

Village Rhythm: What's Still True

The rest of what makes August work here hasn't changed, but the sequencing has.

Doug's Fish Fry is still the fastest lunch answer on a Saturday when you've promised a kid ice cream at Skan Ellus by three. Moro's Kitchen at 28 Jordan Street is still the modest-looking place with the deepest wine list in a two-block radius. Hidden Fish is still the reservation you make when a friend from the city wants to know what Skaneateles has that isn't chicken parmesan. And the Sherwood Inn is still the answer when someone asks where the parents are staying.

The Antique and Classic Boat Show has come and gone. It ran July 24 to 26 at Clift Park, and its 48th year overall and 32nd year in Skaneateles, hosted by the Finger Lakes Chapter of the Antique and Classic Boat Society and the Skaneateles Area Chamber of Commerce Foundation with about 80 displays on water and land. If you missed it, note next July on a calendar and remember that the free parking is at the Austin Park Pavilion lot at Jordan and Austin streets and in the lower gravel lot of Skaneateles High School, with a free shuttle sponsored by Sherwood Inns & Appetites running between the two lots and the village. That shuttle also runs during Curbstone in July, and the same logic works for any Festival Saturday when Genesee Street gets tight.

Two Ways To Actually Spend A Weekend

For a Saturday that stays in-village:

1. Morning walk on the Charlie Major Nature Trail before it gets warm
2. Lunch at Doug's or a sandwich from a village bakery
3. A slow afternoon at Thayer Park with a book
4. Dinner at Hidden Fish or Moro's
5. Festival chamber night at First Presbyterian, 97 East Genesee, if it's a Thursday or Friday

For a Saturday that uses the whole map:

1. Late-morning coffee in the village
2. Drive west to Skaneateles Fields for a lunch at Fields and an afternoon on the property
3. Head north up the west lake road to Anyela's Vineyards for the Robinson Pavilion concert
4. Late bite back at the Sherwood Inn tavern side after the show

The second itinerary didn't exist in this form two summers ago. That's the point.

What This Means If You've Been Watching The Market

You don't need a real estate post to plan an August weekend, and this isn't one. But the same shift is worth noticing if you own here. New full-service hospitality on Mottville, a Festival that reaches down to del Lago and up to Anyela's, and a village that's stopped being the only anchor all pull demand toward Skaneateles from a wider radius than it used to. That widens the pool of people who want a second address on this lake, and it slowly rewrites what a house four miles from Genesee Street is worth relative to one three blocks off it.

None of that changes what makes the village worth living in. It just gives the summer a few more places to go.
